NFL Player Dies after Game
In August 2005, the San Francisco 49ers played an exhibition football game against the Denver Broncos. At the end of 49er coach Mike Nolan's post-game meeting with the players, offensive guard Thomas Herrion collapsed. An EMT and a collection of medics administered CPR to the player, but were unable to get him to respond. Herrion, a 6-foot-3 inch, 310 pound first-year NFL player, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital a couple of hours later. Herrion was set to be an integral part of the 49ers team for the coming year. His death was a shock to all involved.
